At our Castle Quarry we organise and run courses throughout the year. The courses available range from Archery to First Aid, at a range of levels to fit the requirements of industry and societies/organisation's. See our course diary for pre arranged courses. A one day course providing participants with basic skills to deal with an emergency situation. Participants are assessed throughout the day and will receive an attendance certificate at the end of the day. The course provides a level of First Aid training appropriate for low-risk environments and covers the "Scout First Response" syllabus. Topics covered during the 'Appointed Persons' course will include: Assessing the Casualty; CPR; The Unconscious Casualty; Bleeding; Shock; Fractures; and Burns. Return to the top of this page 12 hour courses can be arranged at a date to suit your group, or individuals can book on a course at our training centre. This course fulfils OfSTED requirements and is suitable for all those in working childcare provision. Child and baby manikins are available for practicing CPR. and whenever possible the course has a practical element with casualty scenarios. Return to the top of this page Emergency Procedures First Aid The half day 'Emergency Procedures' course covers basic of First Aid requirements - Aims and Priorities of First-Aid; Examination of Unconscious Patient; Recovery Position; Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation; Bleeding and Shock. Return to the top of this page Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Enables employees to contribute to the development of safer manual handling methods and tasks Overview This qualification introduces candidates to the hazards and risks involved in manual handling and outlines what to expect from a manual handling assessment. Its main purpose is to enable learners to understand the basic principles of risk assessment. We are able to offer Archery Leaders' courses run by recognised Grand National Archery Society coaches. Courses are usually run over two weekends and are subject to a minimum and maximum booking of 12 candidates. The courses include both theory and practical work. All equipment is supplied. Successful candidates will be awarded a Grand National Archery Society certificate and will be considered "competent to teach Archery in sports centre's, educational establishments and youth organisation's to people seeking an introduction to Archery". Return to the top of this page National Small bore Rifle Association (NRSA) There are no courses available for Youth Leaders in Rifle Shooting at present, but we are still able to offer the National Small bore Rifle Association Youth Diploma to groups. Return to the top of this page Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS) The nationally recognised MiDAS scheme was set up by Hampshire County Council and taken over by the Community Transport Association U.K, who continue to administer the scheme, designed to enhance minibus driving standards and promote the safer operation of minibuses. At Scout Enterprises we are appointed training agents, with experienced Driver Assessor/ Trainers (DAT's) We can offer you up to date training in the skills and information needed to drive a minibus. Learn the theory side in a classroom setting, have a practical session with a trained instructor, undertake a short assessment of your driving and complete a short theory test paper. You and your passengers will be aware that your driving competence has been assessed to a common country-wide standard. Be Prepared! Be Safe! The certificate is designed to enhance VOLUNTEER drivers awareness of the safety aspect of minibus driving. Length of course: 4 - 6 hours Assessment Requirements: Observed for competence, with written and practical tests. Course content: -- Action and Emergency Procedures Return to the top of this page British Canoe Union (BCU) At Castle Quarry we can assess people for competence in an Open Canoe or a Kayak and following the requirements of the BCU we can issue recognised certificates at Level One without leaving the centre. Return to the top of this page High Country First Aid We offer this course to fulfil the requirements of Mountain Leadership and particularly for anyone who leads or accompanies groups taking part in adventurous activities, its also recognised by the Scottish National Ski Council. We have delivered this course as far away as the Alps for British Forces. Book your place today. This two day course assumes some prior knowledge and experience of First Aid. The first day will be a refresher of the 'Appointed Person' syllabus. Participants will also cover in more depth the effects of wind chill and hypothermia. The second day is more practical - candidates practice incident management and will undergo an assessment whilst dealing with 'real' casualties. Return to the top of this page Aquatic First Aid This course follows the British Canoe Union syllabus - extra emphasis is placed on recognising and treating the effects of drowning and hypothermia. There is an assessment at the end of the day and the BCU will be notified of candidates' success in order for certificates to be issued. Return to the top of this page
